However, recently we&#8217;d seen clips showing Singapore today and decided we&#8217;d like to visit it again and see how it had changed.\u00a0 We definitely liked it more, and there are some amazing places to visit there.<\/p>\n<p>We stayed at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/booking.stay22.com\/traveljimmy\/PpBtIQguFz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amoy by Far East Hospitality Hotel<\/a><\/strong> in the Central Business District, in a great location close to Chinatown and right next to Telok Ayer metro station.\u00a0 \u00a0As we&#8217;d found when were were there before, Singapore is really expensive compared to other countries in South East Asia and it was a bit of a shock to the system compared with Vietnam and Laos.\u00a0 We knew that hotels were very pricey and reckon the Amoy is great value for money.\u00a0 Our room was very nice, although small and quite dark, the bed was comfortable, the shower good and there was a fridge and coffee machine.\u00a0 The staff on Reception were very nice and super helpful.\u00a0 \u00a0Our room rate included breakfast which was served nearby at the interestingly named <strong>Offbeat by Coq &amp; Balls<\/strong>!\u00a0 The breakfasts were nice and there was a good selection including full english, eggs benedict, shakshuka, french toast, poke bowl and scrambled egg, all served with coffee and fresh fruit juice.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/booking.stay22.com\/traveljimmy\/PpBtIQguFz\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Book a room at Amoy Hotel<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t like the area right next to the hotel at night, <strong>Far East Square<\/strong>.\u00a0 It was pretty frantic with different music coming from every bar, all competing to be the loudest!\u00a0 Also, we couldn&#8217;t believe the cost of alcohol!\u00a0 At <strong>Blu Jaz Cafe<\/strong> a pint of beer varied from about S$12 &#8211; 16 there and service charge and tax was added to that!\u00a0 We did have a very tasty snack there &#8211; Samosa Chaat for S$14.90.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;-14px|||||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;8px||10px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_row use_custom_gutter=&#8221;on&#8221; gutter_width=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;25px|auto||auto||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||0px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_gallery gallery_ids=&#8221;2698,2681,2682,2683,2684,2687,2699,2688,2694,2696,2707,2706&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; show_title_and_caption=&#8221;off&#8221; show_pagination=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||0px|||&#8221; border_style_all_image=&#8221;none&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Lato||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;21px||-15px|||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;12px|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>We were lucky that <strong>Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre<\/strong> was just 10 minutes walk from our hotel.\u00a0 It was a really good food court with a huge choice of different types of food &#8211; indian, chinese, malay, indonesian, mexican, turkish &#8230;.. We had an interesting meal, trying Thunder Tea Rice Special with chicken patties (see last photo above).\u00a0 Thunder Tea Rice claims to have lots of health benefits &#8211; we don&#8217;t know if it was healthy, but it was tasty.\u00a0 Whatever you have for your main course here, we recommend you leave room for dessert.\u00a0 <strong>Butter &amp; Cream<\/strong> do the most amazing <strong>Burnt Basque Cheesecake<\/strong> on a brownie base!\u00a0 After having it once, we had to go back and get one to go to have with a coffee in our room!\u00a0 They had lots of other delicious looking cakes, croissants, etc.\u00a0 If you like satay, don&#8217;t miss <strong>Satay Street<\/strong> every night just outside the food court.\u00a0 The evening we were there it was rained off but seems to be very popular.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row use_custom_gutter=&#8221;on&#8221; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_font=&#8221;Lato||||||||&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>There are many interesting neighbourhoods in Singapore.\u00a0 The first we visited was <strong>Little India<\/strong> and it felt like we had actually been transported to India!\u00a0 There was a real buzz about the place and lots of colourful buildings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Haji Lane<\/strong> in the Kampong Glam area is one we&#8217;d looked forward to visiting.\u00a0 Unfortunately it was pouring rain when we were there, but we could still appreciate the beautiful, colourful buildings.\u00a0 There weren&#8217;t as many shops around as we&#8217;d expected, but it was still worth a visit.\u00a0 <strong>Chinatown<\/strong> was another interesting place to stroll around with interesting buildings including the Sri\u00a0 Mariamman, Singapore&#8217;s oldest Hindu temple.\u00a0 \u00a0<strong>Bugis Street<\/strong> is another shopping area which has an interesting street with murals<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row use_custom_gutter=&#8221;on&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The <strong>Supertrees Show at Gardens by the Bay<\/strong> is a must see if you&#8217;re in Singapore.\u00a0 It is usually a free show which takes place every day at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, but we were there close to Christmas so they had a special event on, in place of the usual free show, which cost S$13.\u00a0 It was quite magical, the light and music show was spectacular and they even had some fake snow at the end!<\/p>\n<p>After watching the Supertrees Show we walked round to the Merlion to watch the Marina Bay light and water show which was also quite impressive.\u00a0 It takes place every night at 8pm and 9pm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||36px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>We returned to Gardens by the Bay the next day for the <strong>Flower Dome<\/strong> and <strong>Cloud Forest with Jurassic Park <\/strong>displays.\u00a0 Both were very impressive.\u00a0 There was again a Christmas theme at the Flower Dome, with lots of ponsettias, christmas decorations, and <span class=\"N9Q8Lc\">model trains running through festive floral displays, in addition to the cacti and many other plants and flowers<\/span>.\u00a0 The entrance to Cloud Forest has an impressive indoor waterfall, and there&#8217;s a high walkway that takes you round past the displays which includes dinosaurs, etc. It feels like walking through a misty, cool rainforest, but inside a giant glass dome. Our only complaint was that it was really cold in the Cloud Forest &#8211; we wish we&#8217;d had sweatshirts or jackets with us!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row use_custom_gutter=&#8221;on&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>We walked to most places as our hotel was pretty central, but we did use the <strong>metro<\/strong> a few times and found it great value, easy to use (you don&#8217;t need to get tickets &#8211; just tap your phone or a contactless credit card at the gate) and very efficient.\u00a0 We also used Grab a few times and found prices good and cars arrived very quickly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Changi Airport<\/strong> is pretty incredible.\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth giving yourself some extra time so that you can check out this airport that is different from any other.\u00a0 There is a huge waterfall at Jewel in Terminal 2, so be sure not to miss it even if you&#8217;re flying out of another terminal.\u00a0 There is a huge shopping centre too and a big selection of places to eat.\u00a0 There&#8217;s even a rooftop swimming pool which you can swim in for a cost (free to guests at the Aerotel Hotel).\u00a0 There are various gardens and floral displays.\u00a0 Just make sure you don&#8217;t miss your flight!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
